Confessions of a Smartwatch Owner

I have a confession. I’m a tech geek. I don’t wear it on my sleeve. But I can’t always hide it. Nowhere does that come through more clearly than my wrist.

See…I wear a Pebble.

I’m not ashamed of it. I love my Pebble. I have had it for over a year and I can’t imagine being without it. You would have to cut my hand off to take it from me (though I would prefer that you didn’t).

There are 4 things that I love about my smartwatch:

  1. Remote Control Light Bulbs – I have Philips Hue light bulbs (I told you I’m a tech geek). They change color, they dim, they can flash when I get a new text message. Neat. Even neater is I can control them from my smartwatch. When I lay down at night, I flick hit a few buttons on my watch and all my lights go out in my house. Yes, I’m that kind of guy!
  2. Controlling music – Bluetooth speaker, check. Phone to run Pandora, Rhapsody, Google Play Music, check. Remote control? Oh, yeah, my smartwatch! Thumbs up or down, pause, skip track, all from the wrist. I’m so talented.
  3. Trusted Device – using the Tasker app on Android. I don’t have to put in a PIN code on my phone as long as it’s connected to my smartwatch. I leave the vicinity of my phone and they disconnect, PIN code is re-enabled. Now that’s convenience and security.
  4. Notifications – the key function of a smartwatch. I don’t miss text messages. I can see who’s calling without pulling phone out of pocket. I can even send canned replies without unlocking phone. Best of all, without having to turn my phone on all the time, I get ridiculously good battery life.

So, there you go. That’s 4 reasons I love my Pebble. And, yes, I will be getting the Pebble Time Steel when it’s released later this year.
